i try to install a ERP 6.0 EHP 7 ERP on a windows server 2012 with a ASE 15.7.0.136 DB.

Every time i start the SWPM the installation aborts at the "Import ABAP" phase with the following message.

Now my company purchased a license for Enterprise Edition and my manager sent me a license file (*.lic). Now I'm wondering if I can apply this new license on my existing installation. All starts fine except that I don't get the command prompt back.  I just get the output of the start-up script but it just hangs at the line 'Console logging is disabled.  This is controlled via the 'enable console logging' configuration parameter'.

Even if I run as a background process using '&' as part of the command line.

Any ideas?

trying to get Sybase ASE 16 server to start as a service as well as ASE Cockpit

ASE Cockpit - I've used the 'cockpitd' in /etc/init.d (note there is a bug in cockpit on ASE16 SP02 PL03 ... references COCKPIT-3_2 instead of COCKPIT-4).  I've set the service up with chkconfig and all works fine on reboot.  However, the service runs under 'root'.  Is it advisable to run it under 'root' or is there a way to configure it to run under 'sybase' as a service.

Sybase ASE 16 - was throwing an error which I traced to SAP Note#2022985.  In my /etc/init.d script I had to export the LANG environmental variable as en_GB.UTF-8 as it was set to POSIX.

Anyway, all good now but running ASE server under 'root'.  Again, you wouldn't do this if you were starting the server manually so is this acceptable.  Should they both be running under sybase and if so how do I achieve that?

We have recently migrated our application from Solaris to Linux and now we are facing a problem.

On Analysis we noticed that the values that are being sent from DB call to Application are not being received properly (check the below call),

declare @errstr varchar(255)

exec APP...func 'usr','pwd',@err output

select @errstr

The values of usr,pwd are not being sent properly.

Is this a library compatibility issue between Solaris and Linux ?

Could some one please help us on this issue ?

I have installed SAP system on Linux / SYBASE 15.7 and trying to restore the backup into New DB.

I have used command: Load database <DBSID> from <path>,

It is giving error as 'The database you are attempting to load was dumped under a  different sort order id (25) or character set id (190) then the ones running on this server (sort order id = 99, character set id = 190)'. If the Sort order differ, atleast one of them is non-binary'

I am new to sybase DB. Please help me to restore the Database.

I've written a web service that connects to and ASE and creates some data. It works fine when deployed to Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2 but not on Windows Server 2012.

Here's the error...

System.Data.EntityException: The underlying provider failed on Open. ---> Sybase.Data.AseCleint.AseException: Could not load code page for requested charset.

After googling I found some folks setting the charset in the connection string. I tried that and it worked! My question is why do I have to do that for Windows Server 2012?

Environment is the following...

Windows Server 2012 R2 Standard

IIS 8.5

ASE PC Client 15.7.0.130000

EntityFramework 5.0

What command do we need to use to export or backup a database and table with data created in Sybase ASE 15.7 DB server?

I do not have control center. When I tried Export wizard from "Data" menu in Sybase Interactive SQL (Version-11.0.1) on windows, I got error "There is nothing to export".

I am performing Sybase research.

I downloaded Sybase 15.7 SP 100 edition from here:

SAP Adaptive Server Enterprise Developer Center.

I setup a Redhat 6.4 Linux server with all the product preinstallation tasks listed in the product documentation.

I ran the setup.bin Sybase ASE install.

I chose a Free Developer Edition of Sybase ASE license type during the install and the installer runs.

I get to the installer screen towards the end of the install which prompts for a SCC administrator password and SCC agent administrator password.

I can't get focus to type in the those prompts. I can use the drop down to change other variables on this screen but not to type.

The install will not proceed without a password listed in the password prompt.

I tried the install with 32 and 64 bit Java - same result.

I tried the install using Cygwin and Putty - same result.

How can I proceed?

Unless I'm missing something, I could not determine which OS and version the file I am about to download will run on.  I contacted SAP to clarify and I was told to post my question here.

It's remarkable to me that the person I chatted with could not answer some basic question and directed me to this forum.  At the very least OS and version should be listed on the download webpage.  Additionally, what version of Sybase will I be downloading 16 or 15.7.

Does anyone know where I can find documentation on the Sybase "TDS" proxy which allows clients, using the Sybase JConnect 6.0.5 JDBC driver, to remotely access a database?

It also allows users with an ODBC-JDBC gateway (provided by vendors including EasySoft and Merant) to load data into ODBC-enabled applications such as Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access.

Each inbound connection, via the proxy, creates its own new connection to the database and does not use the standard pooled connections.

Back in early 2012 further technical information from Sybase regarding this feature used to be found here:
